This week's setlist

Three tracks.
One menu.

"Saturday morning,
Marvin on the radio,
cooking with mom."

Our Kitchen exists so every Detroiter can care for each other through good food.

We're there for the quick weeknight dinner, date night, birthday cookout, and every Saturday morning worth remembering.

We succeed when we put better food and more resources in our communities' hands. That's why we're organized as an L3C, and why every member of our team holds equity in the company.

That's also why we aspire to transition our locations to community ownership and build tools that allow community-owned food to thrive.

Asked & answered

Questions worth asking.

What's a meal kit include?

Our meal kits come with ingredients already portioned to help you put good food on the table faster, and a recipe card with plain-English instructions to make your meal. No cooking experience required.

How much does it cost?

At the Neighborhood Rate, meals average around $8.50 for the Family size. Walk-in orders from the menu run ~$10.50 per meal. SNAP/EBT households earn the Neighborhood Rate the same way every neighbor does — and never pay flexibility fees.

What equipment or appliances do I need?

Most of our meals can be made with a stovetop burner, a single cast iron pan, a saucepan, a sharp cutting knife, and utensils for stirring and serving. We include recommended items for each recipe on our meal detail pages, you can be sure you have what you need before you order.

Do I need cooking experience?

No! Our goal is to make every recipe straightforward and accessible, and making our meals is a great way to start cooking. Check out Start Cooking Mode on each meal's webpage for step-by-step instructions and a built-in timer to help you follow along.

Where do I pick up?

At a convenient spot in your neighborhood, including grocery co-ops, non-profits, community centers, schools, health clinics. We bring the kits in; you pick up at a time that fits your week. Let us know where you'd like to see our next pickup location!

Do I have to subscribe?

No. You can order one-time from the menu whenever at our Walk-in Rate. Instead of an automatically-billed subscription, we offer the Neighborhood Rate: order a certain number of meals each week and we lower the price. No matter what, you're only charged when you place an order.

How does the Neighborhood Rate work?

When you order consistently, we lower the price per meal as you go. If you need a week off, no problem; the lower price will still be there the next week. If you need to take a longer break, the price just resets to the Walk-in Rate and will go back down when you start ordering consistently again. No lock-in or automatic billing, ever.

Does the Neighborhood Rate work with SNAP/EBT?

We're working to accept SNAP/EBT. The Neighborhood Rate is the same for everyone no matter how you pay, and since we only bill when you place an order, SNAP purchases will work like any other payment.

How does billing work?

You're charged when you place an order — never on a fixed schedule, and nothing in a week you don't order. You start at the Walk-in Rate, and your price steps down each week you order until you reach the Neighborhood Rate around week four.

What if I miss a pickup?

Reach out to your pickup spot — they'll hold the kit through the next window when they can. If we miss you, we make it right.

Are the ingredients fresh?

Yes. We prioritize freshness, even when it's not easy. That's because we know fresh ingredients are more nutritious and taste better than frozen or processed ones. We have invested in prep and packaging methods that keep food fresher and safer for longer from day one.

Do you support local food producers?

Yes. We are committed to building long term relationships with Detroit- and Michigan-based food producers. Our goal is to recirculate 100% of every dollar spent with us back into our communities, including by sourcing fresh, locally-produced ingredients.
