What we collect, why, how to get it back

Privacy
policy.

We run a small kitchen, not a data business. We collect what we need to send you a kit, and we don't sell anything we collect. Here's the whole policy — short, plain, and ours.

Section 01

Information we collect.

Only what we need to get a kit to your hands and a receipt to your inbox.

When you sign up for the Our Kitchen waitlist or subscribe to our meal kit service, we collect your name, email address, ZIP code, household size, and dietary preferences. If you are a SNAP/EBT recipient, we collect that status to ensure you receive eligible pricing.

Section 02

How we use it.

To run the kitchen, not to sell ads.

We use your information to provide our meal kit service, communicate updates about pickup locations in your area, and improve our offerings. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Section 03

Storage & security.

Encrypted at rest, in transit, audited by SOC 2 partners.

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption. We use Supabase for database hosting and Stripe for payment processing — both maintain SOC 2 compliance.

Section 04

Data retention after account deletion

When you delete your account, here's what stays — and for how long.

When you delete your account, we retain or remove your data as follows:

  • Anonymized order records — Order line items, totals, and pickup history are kept for 7 years to satisfy United States tax and accounting record-retention requirements. All personal identifiers (your name, email, addresses) are stripped from these rows at the time of deletion; only the order metadata remains.
  • Personally identifying information — Email, name, phone number, and saved addresses are removed at the time of deletion.
  • Stripe payment artifacts — Past invoices, charges, and payment-method records are handled by Stripe per their own retention policy.
  • Authentication records — Your sign-in credentials and session data are removed via cascade at the time of deletion.
Section 05

Cookies.

Essential only. No third-party tracking cookies.

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party tracking cookies.

Section 06

Your rights.

Access, correct, delete — without lawyers, without forms.

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at hello@ourkitchendetroit.org.

Section 07

Contact.

When in doubt, write to us. A real person reads it.
